Boost For Women’s Football at Grassroots
A women’s football team in Leicestershire says it hopes the grassroots game will benefit from the global media coverage of the Lionesses at the World Cup.
Kirby Muxloe Ladies FC is gearing-up for its third full season after securing sponsorship from the Loughborough-based housebuilder William Davis Homes, whose new development Hastings Green is opposite the football ground.
The team is part of the Leicestershire Women’s League Division One, where they compete against established sides from larger catchment areas.
With the new season just weeks away, the club is hoping that the interest generated by the World Cup will encourage more women and girls to become involved in the grassroots game.
Team captain Jade Taylor said: “The World Cup has been another big milestone in women’s football. We all enjoyed watching the Lionesses get through to the final after becoming European champions last year.”
“Although it was disappointing to see them lose in the final, we’re still proud of what they achieved. It shows that the women’s game here has a bright future. That’s got to be good news for teams like Kirby Muxloe.”
Club secretary Molly Henson said: “The excitement generated by the Lionesses at the World Cup has given us all something to build on. Gaining the sponsorship of a prominent local company like William Davis Homes is a real boost and we’re very grateful for the new kit.”
William Davis Homes Operations Director David Dodge said: “We were all transfixed by the progress that the Lionesses made during the Women’s World Cup. It was a fantastic achievement to reach the final and shows the continuing growth of women’s football.”
“We are extremely proud to be able to sponsor Kirby Muxloe Ladies FC this season, especially as their home games are played so close to our Hastings Green development.”
