Our guide to moving.
We know the process of moving is a daunting one, so we’re here to help you every step of the way. Once your completion date has been set, there’s a lot to get ready. It’s an exciting, busy time, so we’ve put together a quick checklist to help you find your feet.
- Book removals and start clearing out.
- Arrange buildings and contents insurance for your new home.
- Organise provisions for pets – ask a family member or friend to take care of them or book them into kennels.
- Let your gas, electricity, water and phone suppliers know the date you’re moving and arrange for your meters to be read.
- Arrange with the new occupant whether or not to leave the electric, gas and water on.
- Book a plumber/electrician to disconnect and re-connect any appliances.
- Organise telephone/cable/satellite/internet installation at your new home. We have connected your secondary points around the home, but for these to work they’ll need to be connected to the service provider master point.
- Send out notification of change of address.
- Register your new postcode via the Royal Mail website.
- It’s time for a major clear out and packing those first few boxes.
- Redirect your mail and inform your local authority of legal completion date to register for council tax and to order bins.
- Start packing and remember to label boxes.
- Make arrangements for house keys – what to do with your existing keys and collecting your new home keys.
- The big day’s here!
- At your new home, our sales consultant will have dealt with final meter readings and notified the relevant bodies.
